Outback Camp is my favorite wild camp in the Calcasieu Ranger District. It is unique as unique as it is a wild camp & car campsite. Parking is located at the intersection of logging road E017O off FS RD 240/Woodward Branch Road. Your parking & access points are the same. You can choose to park here and hike into wild camp or if you have 4WD, you can drive down logging road E017O all the way to wild camp to make it a "Car Camping" adventure. At wild camp, there is room for 2-vehicles and an adequate area to turn around. There is a dedicated fire area here I found. The Terrain navigation is relatively flat, hiking through a pine plantation and some cutover. It later gives way to a beautiful mature hardwood flat at wild camp center. Outback Camp has a difficulty rating of "Easy."

You can also utilize Outback Camp as a start/end point for the WAT, which is only 30 yards north of Wild Camp Center.

The campsite easily accommodates up to 10 shelters. The hike-in from the parking point to the wild campsite center is 764 yards. The water source is not adequate for retrieving water and is part of Lamotte Creek, which is approximately 230 yards away. It is extremely difficult to access this water source, and it was stagnant at the time of visiting. Bring your own water to this wild camp. Waypoint coordinates and location bearings are included in the Wild Camp Report.
