Wild Camp #22 McGehee Creek Perch
McGehee Creek Perch Camp is a simple "Beginner" Camp with one of the best views you'll see in the Homochitto National Forest - A true Getaway! It has the longest hiking mileage as well as creekside access. The Campsite Center is nestled in a mature hardwoods nook on the southside of McGehee Creek. It has an "Easy" difficulty rating due to following a well established logging road behind a Forest Service gate. Parking is located at the FSRD 145A1 green gate off of FSRD 145A on the right. The hike-in is mostly mixed upland pine/hardwood timber. The water source is the wide and always flowing McGehee Creek, which runs East & West through the Homochitto National Forest and is a direct offshoot of the Homochitto River System.
It can accommodate up to 3-4 shelters. The Hike is approx. 2.2 miles (one way) to Wild Camp Center from the starting point. Waypoint coordinates and location bearings are included in the Wild Camp Report.
